Rebounding Drills
Besides shooting, rebounding is another critical factor in achieving success for any basketball team. By increasing the number of rebounds, a team is able to increase the number of possessions. These possessions allow a team to score more points by taking from the other team the chance to make scores.
Rebounding proficiency is improved by studying the other team. By watching and studying the movements of the opponent team, a player will be able to anticipate when and who will be taking the shot, thereby, enabling a defensive rebound. However, the player must also be physically, mentally and emotionally ready to complete such rebound.
Just like any other basketball drills, rebounding drills are equally important to improve the players’ performance. Drills in basketball allow muscle memory, improve strength and stamina. With consistent practice and a lot of repetitions, drills will be second nature to the players and will eventually achieve for the team the winning game.
There are drills in rebounding that get the hands up. The practicing rebounding player will jump and dribble a ball against the backboard or a wall. A specific spot on the backboard or on the wall should be marked before starting. This drill should be repeated several times until it becomes a habit to the player to get the hands up in anticipation of the ball.
Another rebounding drill is getting hands ready. This drill is done by grabbing the ball with two hands, then jumping and banging the ball against the backboard. Bang the ball 3x and shoot the ball in the basket the fourth time.
Taps Drill is another drill in rebounding. First throw the ball against the wall or the backboard. As the ball bounces back from the board, anticipate the ball by jumping and tapping the ball with a designated hand. Do it with the other hand.
